Dave Cushing: Bass
Dave is loving every second working with this group of talented and dedicated musicians. Have you ever met someone and felt like you have known him/her for a long time? OK, good: now multiply that by 6.
Dave was born and grew up in New Hampshire before moving to Massachusetts in his youth. He did his undergrad at the University of New Hampshire, graduate school at the New England Conservatory of Music, and did some post-grad work at Boston University. He also teaches voice privately out of his home in Milford. Since his career path has lead him to singing classical music, almost exclusively opera, you might think him stuck up and snotty... but Dave doesn't take himself all too seriously. He considers himself a blue-collar opera singer (especially in THIS economy).
Dave was in a group called the New Hampshire Gentlemen or the Gents in undergrad, and since then, has had a passion for a capella music. His main musical influence in that genre are of course Rockapella, especially the Sean and Barry years. Aside from them, he is unfamiliar with this sound the young whippersnappers listen to on the radio; the top 40?!?! Dave has extremely eclectic musical tastes ranging from hair-band heavy metal/hard rock and classic and progressive rock to gangster rap. Basically, his taste lends itself up to the latest millennium, hardly beyond, but then back several hundred years as well :)
When not gigging in the classical realm or with Similar Jones, you can find him fixing the problems left in his house by the previous owners, messing around with home and car audio electronics and other geeky hobbies, or playing his frankenstein drum set, much to the chagrin of his neighbors. Dave is also thoroughly enjoying being a parent, with his wife, Kate, to two wonderful kids, Jack and Abby. Semper ubi sub ubi.
