Mike Stevens, Vocal Percussion I was born in Boston and grew up in Northern Virginia. After college, I moved back here to start up my physics PhD, which I'm hoping to finish in the next couple of years. Incidentally, "phd" is an excellent transliteration of a bass drum sound. I started singing at an early age, and I started experimenting with beatbox in high school with my "bands" Classic and The Genuine Article. I've also gotten to sing with some great a cappella groups in college- the Cornell Key Elements and the MIT/Wellesley Toons. I joined up with Similar Jones in November 2004 after I read a post about a pro a cappella group looking for a new rythm section. Since Rahzel wasn't returning my phone messages, I figured this was the best way to make it big. I'm wicked lucky to perform with these folks (how's that for a Virginian-Bostonian sentence?). The Joneses are the most talented people I've ever had the priviledge to work with. I can't imagine a better place to be than in Boston, working in physics (don't shudder, it's awesome!) and making harmony.
