David Cushing, Bass As the NEW newest member of Similar Jones (sorry Katie), I am loving every second working with this group of talented and dedicated musicians. Have you ever met someone and felt like you have known him/her for a long time? OK, good: now multiply that by 5. I was born and grew up in New Hampshire before moving to Massachusetts in my youth. I did my undergrad at the University of New Hampshire, graduate school at the New England Conservatory of Music, and did some post-grad work at Boston University. I also teach voice privately out of my home in Milford. Since my career path has lead me to singing classical music, almost exclusively opera, you might think I'm stuck up and snotty... but I don't take myself all too seriously. I consider myself a blue-collar opera singer (especially in THIS economy). I was in a group called the New Hampshire Gentlemen or the Gents in undergrad, and since then, have had a passion for a capella music. My main musical influence in that genre are of course Rockapella, especially the Sean and Barry years. Aside from them, I am unfamiliar with this sound the young whippersnappers listen to on the radio; the top 40?!?! I have extremely eclectic musical tastes ranging from hair-band heavy metal/hard rock and classic and progressive rock to gangster rap. Basically, my taste lends itself up to the latest millennium, hardly beyond, but then back several hundred years as well :) When not gigging in the classical realm or with Similar Jones, you can find me fixing the problems left on my house by the previous owners, messing around with home and car audio electronics and other geeky hobbies, or playing my frankenstein drum set, much to the chagrin of my neighbors. Semper ubi sub ubi.
